Underarm Sweating – Excessive Sweating
You wake up in the morning and get ready for work. You are leaving for work and you discover that you have already sweated through shirt number one for the day.
You go back upstairs to get another shirt. You get out your second shirt and carefully add some padding to the armpits to try to prevent the sweat from soaking in. You pack an extra shirt or three so you can change later at work.
The sweating continues as you sit down to eat breakfast. The heat coming off of your coffee mug is enough make your hands/palms sweaty enough to almost drop your coffee mug. Also can be difficult to effectively use a butter knife, fork, or spoon.. You think to yourself that you are so happy that you didn’t go eat breakfast with your co-workers like they asked you too as you don’t want anyone to see your excessive sweating.
Driving to work can even be a hassle as your sweaty hands make it hard for you to keep a good grip on the steering wheel at times. Holding your arms in the air is also fun while you are driving as you try to keep your armpits cool with the A/C. when you get to work, your socks and shoes are sweaty. So as you sit down at your desk you sigh and say “here we go again…” to another day of excessive sweating.
If you or anyone you know suffers from excessive sweating ,or what is also know as hyperhidrosis, then this probably sounds pretty familiar to you. What was just described is a normal morning for one of us and no fun at all, in fact it is quite horrible.. Sweating is very normal but when you sweat excessively you don’t even need the presence of a normal trigger like anxiety, hot weather or exercise.
Hyperhidrosis, also sometimes called diaphoresis, involves extreme or excessive sweating and it is estimated that any where from 1-4% of the people in the world suffer from this, so if you suffer from this it is important for you to realize that you are not alone. You may sweat at levels four or five times what most people experience. These levels are far beyond what is considered normal or necessary for the body to keep cool.
